The El Nino that meteorologists have been predicting for the last three years, has decided to finally show up!
It came full force last week and unfortunately, this weather pattern is making a come back this week, which is great for the drought, but makes for crappy travel conditions!
Here are some ideas to help you prepare for the Wet Weather Part II:
- Be prepared for a Blackout: have batteries, flashlights, or candles and matches
- Give yourself extra time to get where you’re going. The rain easily adds 20 mins to my commute and has been known to cause BART delays.
- Minimize travel – A lot more accidents happen in bad weather conditions, so I try to stay cozy at home with my sweats and a cup of hot tea.
- Dress appropriately. Honestly, I have given up on umbrellas. The wind is really good at destroying them, so I wear waterproof boots, a waterproof jacket with a hat, and take a page from the folks in the Pacific Northwest!
- Consider if your household is well prepared for natural disasters. If you live in along a fault line, or a place where fires break out, are you prepared if you lost power for days or had to suddenly had to evacuate?
Stay dry and safe my friends!
