I was surprised yet thrilled to be invited to be a part of the Creativity + Sacramento Photographer Showcase this month! The surprise was because I was asked to speak. And truth be told, I haven’t spoken in public in years. Nevertheless, I was excited to be included in the talent lineup. Some photographers were people who I have heard of but haven’t had the pleasure of meeting. Some were people I had already met and were a fan of!

Creativity + Sacramento

Creativity + is a great volunteer-run organization who puts on monthly meetups with various local speakers. They speak on various creative topics and or themes. Speakers also come from different creative fields and will do showcases of the talent in the area. The next speaker series will dive into the topic of Play.  The meetings take place after work hours around 6 pm so it makes it more accessible for people with traditional 9 to 5 hours.

Personal Projects

What really struck me about all the photographers giving presentations is that their personal work or personal projects. It spoke to their passion for doing photography. Exploring the fun and play that you’re able to express from creativity versus being commissioned to help sell a product. We certainly need work that pays bills and allows us to continue to create. But seeing the personal projects really stirred in me that said yes, you should start working on these too.

Conclusion

It was great to meet new photographers in the area thanks to the Creativity + Sacramento Photographer Showcase! I’m so glad that I was able to speak and see all the personal projects of other creatives. They’re usually personal and I loved hearing the stories behind why they’re doing them! I’m now starting my own project and will tell you more about it in the coming weeks when I have a bit more to show, so stay tuned!
