The creative community here in Sacramento is by far the kindest, most generous with their time, talent, and knowledge I’ve met! It’s truly humbling and I will be forever grateful.
One of the main reasons we left Sacramento in 2016, was because we didn’t feel like we had made a lot of connections here. We had some friends, but most of our social circle was still based in the Bay Area, and the reason we ultimately went back. When we decided to come back to Sacramento I knew that I had to put forth a stronger effort in meeting people and connecting with the local community here. I decided not to believe the lie I was telling myself, that I was an introvert and not good at meeting people. I signed myself up for meetings, coffee dates, and just met everyone who agreed!
Here’s a list of some of the local Creative meetings in the area:
Photography Groups:
Tuesdays Together – Rising Tide Society
Founded by Natalie Franke to promote Community over Competition, the Rising Tide Society has local groups that meet up discussing a monthly topic. This month we’re talking about Branding! Monthly topics rotate, but are related to running a creative business.
Good Tuesdays – Good Inc
Free meetups during the summer months, on you guessed it, Tuesdays! Models and photographers get together to shoot. Meet hundreds of other local photographers, models, and creatives!
They also offer editing classes and getaway in scenic destinations: Lassen, Santa Cruz, and Shasta to name a few! I went to a color grading class with Abel and he could not have been kinder sharing all his tips he’s learned over the years!
Other Creative Groups:
Blog Bloc
I found out about this group through Meghan of Poppy and Oak! It was founded by Kachet Jackson-Henderson who decided to launch this group after attending Alt Summit in 2017. It’s a place where bloggers, creatives, content creators can connect and network! I’ve met jewelry designers, bakers, fashion bloggers, as well as other photographers here!
Creative Mornings – Sacramento
August’s topic is community! I haven’t had the pleasure of going to one of these yet because the tickets GO FAST! They announce when tickets go live and suggest setting an alarm for them! They’re on Friday mornings, and also draw a range of creatives to their meetings!
Previous meetings have been recorded and can be found here if you didn’t get tickets or wanted to check out their offerings!
Facebook groups
This list wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t at least mention Facebook groups. Most of these groups listed above, have a corresponding Facebook group in addition to their live events. There are so so many FB groups I’m a part of ! Some are open to everyone, some require purchase or subscription to enter the group. Some act as a troubleshoot forum for a product. Here are some of my favorites:
Social Curator with Jasmine Star
Social media guru Jasmine Star started this community earlier this year. It is filled to the brim with supportive entrepreneurs! Everyone I’ve connected to has been kind, helpful, and positive! You have to be a paid member to Social Curator to join. $25/month gets you Social Media captions, stock photography, a monthly action plan for a business topic, and entry into this group!
Goal Digger is one of my favorite weekly podcasts, and there is a large 22k group. Free groups usually have a much larger membership than paid ones. The most recent posts talk about how to get featured on the Explore page on Instagram, the most recent episode on SEO, lessons learned from starting a business.
I hope this posts helps you find your tribe, so you feel connected!
